Blog Census!

It’s not really a “census,” just a quick survey. I’m interested to see, specifically what you all think about my writing. Of course, my aspiration is to become the next Roger Ebert (save for the surgery), and I’m writing for you, not me. Let me know what you think in this informal survey, if you will…

  1. That’s a great aspiration — I think Roger Ebert is brilliant. πŸ™‚ And you can always combine a career as a film critic with other forms of work related to things you’re passionate about, like film. Ebert, for example, writes books as well as reviews.

I’ll take a look at your survey. I’m not sure if I’ve read enough of your writing yet to give helpful feedback, but I have you in my feed reader and I’ll be sure to rectify that. πŸ˜‰

  2. Just took your survey; it seems we have the aspiration. I’ve often wondered how much luck plays into getting that job, but part of me believes in luck and the other part doesn’t. You have such a great blog and you won’t be 18 for a while. I’ll be pushing extremely hard at a chance in the business once another birthday approaches (taking some coding and marketing classes). I think you would agree with me in not wanting some job you can’t stand and just stuck. A movie critic career is the sole thing that would bring me back permanently. Hey, if you become the next Ebert, can I be your Siskel? πŸ˜€

    • I love your comment, Alec. You’d be a great Siskel if I were Ebert. And you’re right that it’s a lot of luck. There are so many critics writing for newspapers everywhere, but we always associate the field with Ebert. Glad we both have hope. Otherwise, it’s either a) newspaper critique (writing naturally pays little) or b) some bookstore clerk job.
