The Good, the Bad, the Snubbed

As we all know (or should know), the Oscar nominees were announced earlier today. Below is a rundown per my thoughts on each category. Particularly, the ones that the Academy completely overlooked.

And I am, to tell you the truth, dead serious on all the snubs I have listed below:

Best Picture snubs
“Moonrise Kingdom”
Best Actor snubs
Anthony Hopkins (“Hitchcock”)
Best Actress snubs
Helen Mirren (“Hitchcock”)
Kara Hayward (“Moonrise Kingdom”)
Best Supp. Actor snubs
Fran Kranz (“The Cabin in the Woods”)
Ice Cube (“21 Jump Street”)
James D’Arcy (“Hitchcock”)
Javier Bardem (“Skyfall”) (What did they NOT see in his character that they DID see in [insert name of their respective picks for the greatest Bond villain here]? Oh wait, no one else has been nominated for a bond role, let alone a villain. Talk about injustice.)
Best Supp. Actress snubs
Maggie Smith (“The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”)
Scarlett Johansson (“Hitchcock”)
Tilda Swinton (“Moonrise Kingdom”)
Best Director snubs
Christopher Nolan (“The Dark Knight Rises”)
Gary Ross (“The Hunger Games”)
Ridley Scott (“Prometheus”)
Tom Hooper (“Les Misérables”)
Best Foreign Language Film snubs
…but I’m sure glad they didn’t give any love to The Raid!
Best Adapted Screenplay snubs
Neal Purvis and Robert Wade & John Logan (“Skyfall”)
Best Original Screenplay snubs
Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard (“The Cabin in the Woods”) (I know, I know, the Academy hates horror and comedy equally, and they’ve shown it disturbingly well, but you can’t pass over brilliance like this.)
Best Animated Feature Film snubs
Not sure how Brave ended up nominated, though. Especially in the same league as Wreck-It Ralph, a film that–unlike Brave–was lots of fun to watch. Just sayin’.
Best Production Design snubs
Best Cinematography snubs
“Les Misérables”
“Moonrise Kingdom” (I’d, quite honestly, like to know how the hell that happened.)
Best Sound Mixing snubs
Les Misérables, getting the love it deserves.
Best Sound Editing snubs
“Beasts of the Southern Wild” (Listen to the first minute of sound…beautiful. Perhaps the Academy missed it.)
Best Original Score snubs
Alexandre Desplat (“Moonrise Kingdom”)
Hans Zimmer (“The Dark Knight Rises”)
Nathan Johnson (“Looper”)
Best Original Song snubs
Fingers crossed for Adele.
Best Costume snubs
“The Dark Knight Rises”
“The Hunger Games”
Best Documentary Feature snubs
I’m cheering that Jiro Dreams of Sushi was NOT nominated.
Best Film Editing snubs
“The Dark Knight Rises”
Makeup and Hairstyling snubs
“The Hunger Games”
Best Visual Effects snubs
“The Dark Knight Rises”

Note: This does not include any short snubjects.
