“Crash” named Best Picture

Full list of Oscars won:

BEST FILM EDITING

– What else was nominated?

Cinderella Man
The Constant Gardener
Munich
Walk the Line

– Which of the nominations have I seen and which have I not seen?

Only seen the winner.

– Which deserved to win (first choice and runner-up)?

The winner, actually, though the editing was one of few peaks it had.  After that, I’ll go with Munich, since a) I’m a Spielberg fan, and b) I haven’t seen a single one of his films suffer in editing.

– How sane was the Academy when they handed this award over?

Fairly sane, I guess.

BEST PICTURE

– What else was nominated?

Brokeback Mountain
Capote
Good Night, and Good Luck.
Munich

– Which of the nominations have I seen and which have I not seen?

Good Night, and Good Luck. did I see.

– Which deserved to win (first choice and runner-up)?

Good Night, and Good Luck. isn’t great at all (I gave it a B- and stick I true to that).  However, it’s so much better in social commentary than Crash.

– How sane was the Academy when they handed this award over?

I’d be mincing words to call it an all-time low.  Are they trying to endorse the betrashèd side of Hollywood?  Oh wait this is independent filmmaking, and one of the very first to win Best Picture.  The thought itself gives me nightmares.

SHOULD HAVE WON!

BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY

– What else was nominated?

Good Night, and Good Luck.
Match Point
The Squid and the Whale
Syriana

– Which of the nominations have I seen and which have I not seen?

Good Night, and Good Luck., did I see.

– Which deserved to win (first choice and runner-up)?

That one.  No, wait: since it’s from the screenwriting god who is Woody Allen, Match Point.  I trust him, even if I haven’t seen it.

– How sane was the Academy when they handed this award over?

Let’s just say, it’s a film that takes racist approaches to anti-racism.  Screenplay’s fault, guys!

SHOULD HAVE WON (I THINK)!

Other nominations:

Best Director (Paul Haggis)
Best Original Song (“In the Deep” by Kathleen York & Michael Becker)
Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Matt Dillon)

Tomorrow

Little Shop of Horrors

&

Olympus Has Fallen
