Full list of Oscars won:

BEST DIRECTOR (MARTIN SCORSESE)

– What else was nominated?

Letters from Iwo Jima – Clint Eastwood
The Queen – Stephen Frears
Babel – Alejandro Gonzázlez Iñárritu
United 93 – Paul Greengrass

– Which of the nominations have I seen and which have I not seen?

I only saw Letters from Iwo Jima.

– Which deserved to win (first choice and runner-up)?

I love Clint Eastwood’s direction on Letters from Iwo Jima, but it’s about time Scorsese gets his name known, at least by the Academy!  How many films was that…twenty!?  Blasphemy, but thank god he finally got recognized.  Thank god.

– How sane was the Academy when they handed this award over?

Of delayed sanity.

BEST FILM EDITING

– What else was nominated?

Babel
Blood Diamond
Children of Men
United 93

– Which of the nominations have I seen and which have I not seen?

Zilch.

– Which deserved to win (first choice and runner-up)?

No runner-up needed.  Scorsese, Schoonmaker…perfection.

– How sane was the Academy when they handed this award over?

Thankfully sane.

BEST PICTURE

– What else was nominated?

Babel
Letters from Iwo Jima
Little Miss Sunshine
The Queen

– Which of the nominations have I seen and which have I not seen?

The two in the middle.

– Which deserved to win (first choice and runner-up)?

C’mon let’s go with The Departed.  Easy choice, and mind you, I gave the same grade to Letters from Iwo Jima and Little Miss Sunshine.

– How sane was the Academy when they handed this award over?

Of delayed sanity.  Academy, you still shall pay for letting Kevin Costner take two (if not more) Oscars from Goodfellas!

BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY

– What else was nominated?

Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan
Children of Men
Little Children
Notes on a Scandal

– Which of the nominations have I seen and which have I not seen?

I saw Borat (I shall use that ultralong title no longer) and Notes on a Scandal.

– Which deserved to win (first choice and runner-up)?

I’d have to place The Departed as a runner-up to Borat, if only because I haven’t seen the original Chinese movie Infernal Affairs on which The Departed is based.  I feel I should, even if it’s one of Scorsese’s many chefs d’oeuvre.  And Borat, well, it made me laugh my ass off.

– How sane was the Academy when they handed this award over?

They’ve probably seen Infernal Affairs, right?  Good enough.

SHOULD HAVE WON (BUT I’LL REEVALUATE UPON WATCHING INFERNAL AFFAIRS)!

Other nominations:

Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Mark Wahlberg) [deserved]
