Full list of Oscars won:

BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY

– What else was nominated?

Changeling
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Dark Knight
The Reader

– Which of the nominations have I seen and which have I not seen?

The middle dós, saw I did.

– Which deserved to win (first choice and runner-up)?

The Dark Knight, but only by a margin.  Both that and Slumdog Millionaire remain in my mind, as far as visual beauty.

– How sane was the Academy when they handed this award over?

I’ll tangent off and ask, why’d they nominate The Curious Case of Benjamin Button for so many awards, let alone Best Cinematography?  It was good, but that’s like saying a movie’s good because it’s not low-budget, I guess…wasn’t beautiful.  Anyway.

SHOULD HAVE WON!

BEST DIRECTOR (DANNY BOYLE)

– What else was nominated?

The Reader – Stephen Daldry
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button – David Fincher
Frost/Nixon – Ron Howard
Milk – Gus Van Sant

– Which of the nominations have I seen and which have I not seen?

I saw the middle two.

– Which deserved to win (first choice and runner-up)?

Ah Frost/Nixon, otherwise known as, Ron Howard Bores Again.  I’ll say Boyle followed by Fincher.  Mr. Fincher, you’re lucky I like you; The Curious Case of Benjamin Button gets worse and worse in my mind whenever I think of it, so how lucky are you to get a mention.

– How sane was the Academy when they handed this award over?

Sane.

BEST FILM EDITING

– What else was nominated?

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Dark Knight
Frost/Nixon
Milk

– Which of the nominations have I seen and which have I not seen?

I saw all but Milk.

– Which deserved to win (first choice and runner-up)?

Slumdog Millionaire, followed by The Dark Knight.

– How sane was the Academy when they handed this award over?

Sane, according to the saneless me.

BEST ORIGINAL SCORE

– What else was nominated?

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Defiance
Milk
WALL-E

– Which of the nominations have I seen and which have I not seen?

Where is The Dark Knight on this list?

– Which deserved to win (first choice and runner-up)?

Pardon me, shouldn’t The Dark Knight be on this list?

– How sane was the Academy when they handed this award over?

Where is The Dark Knight?

BEST ORIGINAL SONG (“Jai Ho” by A. R. Rahman & Gulzar)

– What else was nominated?

WALL-E – “Down to Earth” by Peter Gabriel & Thomas Newman
Slumdog Millionaire – “O Saya” by A. R. Rahman & M.I.A.

– Which of the nominations have I seen and which have I not seen?

I remember the winner and the first-mentioned, not the latter.

– Which deserved to win (first choice and runner-up)?

(see above)

– How sane was the Academy when they handed this award over?

They’re off the hook.

BEST SOUND MIXING

– What else was nominated?

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Dark Knight
WALL-E
Wanted

– Which of the nominations have I seen and which have I not seen?

I saw the first three, not the last.

– Which deserved to win (first choice and runner-up)?

The Dark Knight then WALL-E.

– How sane was the Academy when they handed this award over?

They didn’t nominate The Dark Knight for its über-great score.

SHOULD HAVE WON!

BEST PICTURE

– What else was nominated?

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Frost/Nixon
Milk
The Reader

– Which of the nominations have I seen and which have I not seen?

I can’t tell if that says The Curious Case of Benjamin Button or The Dark Knight…either way, I saw whichever it is (The Dark Knight?  Please?), as well as Frost/Nixon.

– Which deserved to win (first choice and runner-up)?

So it’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.  Let’s go with the winner.  No runners-up.

– How sane was the Academy when they handed this award over?

Why’d they bother nominating The Curious Case of Benjamin Button?

BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY

– What else was nominated?

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Doubt
Frost/Nixon
The Reader

– Which of the nominations have I seen and which have I not seen?

First, third, saw ’em.

– Which deserved to win (first choice and runner-up)?

Whatever.  Slumdog Millionaire, followed by The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.  Brad Pitt, why’d you choose such a role?  You hardly got a chance to act.  And you’re not even an antihero in the role.

– How sane was the Academy when they handed this award over?

Outstanding.

Other nominations:

Best Original Song (“O Saya” by A. R. Rahman & Maya Arulpragasam)
Best Sound Editing [deserved]
